RINGETTE

**Gee-Gees Ringette team captures silver at the University Ringette Championships in North Bay**

The University of Ottawa ringette program is in its tenth season and has provided many student athletes with the opportunity to continue playing the sport they love while pursuing a post-secondary education. The team competes throughout the year in the A division of the local adult ringette league and participates in tournaments in various locations.

Ringette at the University of Ottawa has enjoyed considerable success over the years:

2012 - Bronze – University Ringette Championships – London, Ontario

2012 - Silver – Ontario Ringette Provincial Championships – West Ottawa, Ontario

2011 - Silver – Ontario Ringette Association Provincial Championships – Waterloo, Ontario

2010 - Gold – Gloucester and Area Adult Ringette League, Ottawa, Ontario

2010 - Bronze – Ontario Ringette Association Championships – North Bay, Ontario

2009 - Silver – University Ringette Championships – Niagara Falls, Ontario

2006 - Gold - University Ringette Championships – Winnipeg, Manitoba

The University of Ottawa Gee-Gees ringette team has competed in the Ontario Ringette

Association Championships each of the last four years. The Gee-Gees have returned with a medal three of those years.

Players participating in the Gee-Gees ringette program can expect to find an immediate

community of friends who share a passion for the sport and the thrill of competition. Athletes on the team find a much-needed balance to their academic routine through high quality ringette competition and a regular exercise program. The team currently carries 14 skaters, two goalies, and two spares.

This competitive club team usually has one or two practice and/or conditioning ice-times per week, and plays roughly one league game per week. Players should expect to participate in the national university ringette championships, as well as other tournaments (to be decided upon within the team). Through the support of the university, and fundraising by the team, the cost of participating in the program is kept affordable. Games and practices take place outside the hours of the normal class schedule.

Tryouts begin during the second week of classes each year. Tryout and other information is available through the coach, who can be contacted at the e-mail address or phone number listed below.
